Our Green Policy

Our Green Policy

The Scottish Highlands are regarded by many as one of the last remaining wildernesses in the UK and we wholeheartedly agree.  From that train of thought we feel that it is important that we have an environmental policy in place to help to protect this beautiful area that we reside in. Burnbank Lodges is set in a natural woodland with two rivers running through the site which we share with many species of natural flora and fauna.

When we became the owners of Burnbank Lodges in January 2019, it was our mission to make sure that neither we, nor our guests, had a negative impact on this beautiful natural environment and we are delighted to have received a Sustainability Hero Award for our efforts.

To help us achieve our commitment we have created the Burnbank Lodges Green Policy listed out below:

  • For our business to create less waste we encourage our guests and staff to use our designated glass and general recycling bins as much as possible to reduce waste going to landfill.
  • We are increasing the use of low energy consuming appliances and have changed all lighting in our lodges and around site to low energy LED bulbs.
  • Our Woodland and rivers are a haven for birds, bats, squirrels and otters to name but a few of its residents alongside our guests in their lodges.  For that reason we leave large areas of our grounds to be wild.
  • Where possible we encourage our guests to use public transport or stay local, walking from their lodges.
  • We buy our supplies locally, encourage our guests to use local businesses where possible and enjoy supporting local community projects
  • We strive to comply with relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
  • All of our guest information, guide books and blogs are online which reduces the need to print and reprint this information every time something changes.
  • Linen and towels are provided for all guests and it is our policy to only replenish these mid stay if you are staying longer than 7 nights.  This is to reduce the amount of laundry our property produces and in turn the impact it has on the environment.

We support and enhance our grounds for flora and fauna:

  • We have installed 5 bird feeding stations around the site to encourage an abundance of birdlife including siskins and woodpeckers.
  • Our grounds are planted with flora to encourage bees and other pollinating insects
  • In order to minimize disruption to wildlife we share our surroundings with, we do not allow our guests to bring pets with them.

We are committed to reviewing our policy and continually looking for new ways to improve our sustainability and reduce our impact on the environment.
