Take the M8 through Glasgow but DO NOT leave at Junction 17 to join the A82 (The A82 goes all the way from Glasgow to Spean Bridge) Instead, STAY ON THE M8 UNTIL JUNCTION 30 and follow the signs for Erskine Bridge. It is no longer a toll bridge, and is free to use. Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn left to join the A82 there.
On a map, this way appears to be the longer option, and in terms of distance, it is a little longer. You may still come across heavy traffic, but in terms of time, the saving can be measured in hours!. Don't say we didn't warn you!
